Monk Season 7 Episode 1 “Mr. Monk’s Favorite Show” Review
‘Mr. Monk’s Favorite Show’ is everything viewers have been missing this summer! The OCD detective is back and as funny and phobic as ever!
The episode begins with Mr. Monk and Natalie camped out for a book signing by Mr. Monk’s favorite child star, now ‘all grown-up.’ Mr. Monk buys the first copy (after winning a trivia contest against another fan with his ridiculously detailed memories of the ‘I Love Lucy’-esque show) but doesn’t get it signed. Why? Because, across town, someone has just tried to kill the former actress.
Mr. Monk is elated at the chance to meet his favorite child star, and cannot comprehend why someone would want to hurt her. Natalie, reading the woman’s book, has a slightly better idea. The book is a ‘filthy’ list of exploits and it is not until Captain Stottlemeyer orders Mr. Monk to read it that the detective stops spouting trivia and badgering the actress with questions about the show. By the time a second attempt on her life takes place, Mr. Monk has denounced the show and the actress.
This episode is a key example of the hilarity of Mr. Monk’s discomfort and lack of knowledge of anything sexual (he thinks the mirror above the actress’ bed is so she can she anyone trying to sneak in her bedroom door), and his disgust upon reading the book brings back memories of ‘Mr. Monk and the Naked Man.’ Highlights include Natalie trying to keep Mr. Monk from reading ‘page 73′ in the book, a fight scene between Natalie, Mr. Monk and a murderer, and Mr. Monk’s vivid hallucination of himself in full eighties regalia as a character on the actress’ TV show.
Overall, yet another great episode from my ‘Favorite Show’! This episode premiers on August 7th and 9 pm Eastern, 8 Central, on USA Network.
