Watch Monk: “Mr. Monk Gets Shot”
This is basically an American detective drama series, but not a serious one, in fact perfectly blended with comedy. Adrian Monk is the lead character of the series, and the title of the series has been named after him. Adrian Monk is a brilliant detective, who has worked in San Francisco Police Department. But he was discharged from there after he suffered a nervous break down due to his wife’s demise in a car bombing. Initially, he supposed that he was the target, but gradually as he investigated into the matter, realized that this was not the case.
He was so depressed due to his wife’s killing that he got Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and several types of phobias. Due to his OCD and phobia, he remained at home for complete three years but later on with the help of a registered nurse, he gathered courage to work again. Now he started working as a private detective and consultant for the homicide unit. His mental slump generates fun on the show, as his phobias create really awkward situations at most of the times, for himself and others around him.
Here is one interesting thing as well about his disorder. His OCD helps him in solving cases in strange way and that’s why it’s his catchphrase, “It’s a gift…….and a curseâ€. That’s why I called this series the different one, as you will see a brilliant detective but with mental disorders and phobias.
Captain Leland Stottlemeyer is long time friend of Monk from San Francisco Police department. He normally remains irritated due to these quirks of Adrian during investigations. But still secretly believes that Monk is a better investigator than him. Their joint presence is the fun factor of the episodes. He is shown a bit jealous of Monk too.
Randy Disher is another old associate of Monk and Stottlemeyer, who calls Monk “a defective detectiveâ€. He teaches many tactics to Monk about how to get people speak what they don’t say otherwise.
Throughout the series, along with searching his wife’s killers, Monk investigates other crimes also while dealing with his disorders.
Seventh season is running since July 18, 2008. Last episode aired was on September 12, 2008. It is learnt that it’ll be the last season of the series due to rising cost of production.
